The greatest fear 55+ adults have about growing older is losing their cognitive abilities and the possibility of developing Alzheimer's disease. Their concerns are valid given the dire projections for the next 10-20 years. It is anticipated that up to 50% of the older adult population will experience some degree of cognitive decline, including Alzheimer's disease.
The only cure is prevention. In this session, we will explore strategies that health and fitness professionals can use with their clients to improve brain health, stimulate neuroplasticity, build cognitive reserve, and optimize cognitive performance.
In this session, you'll...
- Identify the primary factors responsible for decreasing risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease with aging;
- Recall exercise strategies that stimulate neuroplasticity and build cognitive reserve;
- Describe how to use cognitive-motor tasks to enhance physical and cognitive performance.
