Incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction are NOT part of aging, not a given after childbirth, nor something to tolerate for decades. It’s preventable and treatable, not just manageable. Pelvic floor dysfunction is the #1 reason that women reduce their physical activity. It squelches freedom to GO OUT, to train, travel, dance, pursue sport, recreation, adventure and active hobbies.
It plays a role in fall risk, frailty and dehydration, and is a major factor in nursing home admissions. Pelvic floor integrity is an integral component of a supple and stable trunk, where alignment, breathing and motor control are pre-requisites for preserving gait speed, strength, power, neuromotor skills and stamina. We are on the front lines of ‘nipping this in the bud.
